Geography Rinjani Mountain
Lombok is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands. The tiny low archipelago, which stretches from west to east, consists of Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, Sumba, and the Timor Islands, all located at the edge of the Australian seabed. Oceanic crusts, acting on the shelf itself, form volcanoes within the space.
Rinjani is one of a minimum of 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia. Four of those belong to the volcanoes of the Sunda Arc trench system, forming a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire—a part of fault lines stretching from the western hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia.
The islands of Lombok and Sumbawa consist of the central portion of the Sunda Arc. The Sunda Arc is home to a number of the world’s most dangerous and explosive volcanoes. On April 15, 1815, Mount Tambora on Sumbawa experienced the most violent eruption in recorded history. The eruption received a VEI score of seven.
The highlands are forest-clad and principally undeveloped. The lowlands are extremely cultivated. Rice, soybeans, coffee, tobacco, cotton, cinnamon, cacao, cloves, cassava, corn, coconuts, copra, bananas, and vanilla are the major crops grown within the fertile soils of the island. The autochthonal Sasak population inhabits the slopes. There are some basic tourist-connected activities established on Rinjani, primarily in or concerning the village of Senaru.
The Rinjani volcano on the island of Lombok rises to 3,726 meters (12,224 feet). Only Sumatra’s Kerinci volcano surpasses Rinjani in height among Indonesian volcanoes. Rinjani has a steep-sided, round-shaped profile when viewed from the east.
However, the western aspect of the compound volcano is truncated by the 6 x 8.5 km oval-shaped Segara Anak volcanic crater. The western half of the volcanic crater contains a 230-metre-deep lake whose crescentic kind results from the growth of the post-caldera cone Barujari at the eastern finish of the volcanic crater.
Best Time to Climb Mount Rinjani
Rinjani is best climbed during the April-November dry season. Generally, the rainy season, from January to the end of March, closes the trekking trails.
Recently the early months of the ‘dry season’ have become more prone to rain. And you should be prepared to encounter heavy rain and low visibility with slippery tracks underfoot at any time, particularly in the afternoon.
